An Interview with Ralph Plaskett

Below you will find an excerpt of a 2009 interview conducted with Ralph Plaskett. In this interview you will discover insights about Ralph that you won’t find anywhere else. It is much more enlightening than some boring bio … at least we think so!
Interviewer: How did you come into the business of marketing?
Ralph Plaskett: It’s far for me to believe that recently in my adult life, I came into the business of marketing. I consider marketing as an understanding of what people want, need, or desire and creating a message that will resonate with and attract those persons. To me, marketing is psychology – a subject that I have been passionate about for a lifetime. However, I must credit the direct response legends like Kennedy, Halbert, Caples, and Ogilvy as my inspiration for coming into the business of marketing.
Interviewer: What is your greatest struggle in your business?
Ralph Plaskett: Oh, I can list a few such as resources, vendors not meeting expectations, and time constraints but this is no different than any other business owner or entrepreneur. It is a struggle we just learn how to deal with; we adapt to the circumstance or rather we cause the circumstance to adapt to us through innovation. As an entrepreneur, the ideas that we have for businesses, sub-businesses, and cross-businesses are so vast. As a marketer, the ideas for marketing campaigns, advertisements, copywriting, and online and offline strategies are even more. Adding to all of that is the desire to implement all of these ideas, and it becomes rather overwhelming. This is when I turn to God for peace.
Interviewer: How did you come to know God and Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
Ralph Plaskett: God has always been part of my life but I remember a time where God seemed so far away (as if I never knew Him). Like many people, I came to know God again through what seemed like a tragedy at the time. Everything was going wrong in my life and I wasn’t doing a good job of managing it. That is when I decided to turn it all over … back to God. It was the best decision I ever made (the second best is marrying my wife).
Interviewer: Do you find it difficult to run a business and express your faith?
Ralph Plaskett: Well, I am fortunate to have a business where I don’t have to hide my faith. I can express it openly in hopes that it will draw people closer to to Christ (even those who never received Him).
Interviewer: What do you recommend for business owners and entrepreneurs whose target market are not Christians?
Ralph Plaskett:If you’re asking ‘How can business owners and entrepreneurs run a faith based business even if their market or business has nothing to do with their faith’ , the simple answer is the same way you run a faith based life or a Christian lifestyle. The principles and statutes taught in the Word of God apply to the business environment in the same way it does to your personal life. Christianity…being a believer in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior…is a lifestyle, so it shouldn’t matter whether you are at the office, with your family and friends, or around total strangers, your faith, your walk, your lifestyle shouldn’t change.
Interviewer: What do you see as the mission for Kingdom Entrepreneur Insiders™?
Ralph Plaskett: Kingdom Entrepreneur Insiders’, or the KEI as I call it, mission is to continuously educate small business owners with effective and time tested strategies of direct response marketing and to shift their mindset towards their God-ordained success – all the while creating massive income. Simply put, its mission is to bless others (with knowledge and understanding) so that they may be a blessing to their immediate community.
Interviewer: What quick marketing advice can you give listeners?
Ralph Plaskett: Hmmmm. A quick one, huh? Well, only Jesus can be everything to everyone at all times; and no matter how much you try to capture all the markets of the world, you won’t be able to do so. The velocity of your success is determined in part by understanding the niche or target market for your products and services. There are massive profits in understanding your niche, contrary to what some believe. Again, only Jesus can be everything to everyone.
